The boys are both black (one has white markings). The girls are also black, and one has white markings. Both of the boys are the biggest in the litter at 2 weeks. The girl with white markings is possibly the one I'm keeping. The other two girls are solid black, and they are the smallest in the litter. I will be uploading photos on my Facebook Page, Arkeden Tibetan Terriers. Please request to join my page. This website is coming down off the internet sometime in late October, when my subscription expires. My email address is jackiefaust@comcast.net. That is also a good way to reach me.
Figgy was mated to Jett on Halloween, in Maine. On black Friday, we had an ultrasound to confirm Figgy was pregnant. Vet said, "She's loaded! Maybe 7 or more puppies!" Ultrasound is not an exact method, but that guesstimate was pretty close. Figgy easily whelped 6 healthy puppies in just 3 hours, before the clock struck 10 PM. They all but one weighed over 9 ounces! The last girl was 8.5 ounces. Holly slid out while I was distracted, and when I looked again, there she was, all cleaned up and sleeping. Good mommy, Figgy!
I've been going to Florida in January for 5 years, and this year, because of the upcoming litter, and also because of COVID, I decided to stay in Florida 3 months. We arrived December 19, after a 2 day drive from our NJ home. We got settled in our lovely rental home by the beach, in Anna Maria, Florida. I spent the first few days getting to know the island and getting supplies. I found a great kiddie pool for the whelping, and dog-steps for Figgy to get up on the bed with me. I found a mobile vet who specializes in reproduction, and sent them Figgy's records. I bought a used bicycle and cruised around this beautiful island. Most of the time, gestation for a dog is 63 days. Tibetans usually whelp earlier, about 61 days. So I thought I had a few more days... and then, Figgy started nesting behavior. She threw up and I knew this was the day we were waiting for. Friday, December 27 was day 58. Wow, and the puppies were BIG, full size plus!
I made a weight chart, a daily weight of each puppy. It is important to notice if they do not gain weight daily, because that would mean they might need milk supplementation. But they grew big and strong, and Figgy was an awesome first time mother. They opened their eyes at 14-15 days, and started crawling, and then playing with each other. At 3 weeks, it was time to move them from the kiddie pool to the puppy pen. Figgy learned to jump in and out and she continued to nurse them. They are on a cycle of nurse, pee, poop, sleep, play, not always in that order. They experienced the living room floor this morning, and fearlessly explored the room. My sister and I are enjoying ourselves, just staying home!
